Mike Marcolini retired from NASA Langley Research Center at the end of 2014 after 38 years of service, and immediately relocated to Blacksburg. He predominantly worked as a researcher in aeroacoustics, where his primary focus areas were rotorcraft broadband noise and blade-vortex interaction noise. He also designed and tested low noise flight procedures for tiltrotors and helicopters, and later led environmental assessments (noise, emissions, and fuel burn) for the Next Generation Air Transportation System. He also led Langley’s research efforts to develop advanced measurement diagnostics for wind tunnels for several years.
